SME's ESG Contribution for a Sustainable Society

EDigest, the digital economic news platform, has held an interview with our General Manager, Tony Cheung, elaborating on UAT's vision and dedications in ESG development. Tony is the founding member of SME Sustainability Society, and the 2020/21 President of the Rotary Club of Star Avenue. Under his leadership, UAT has actively participated in various community welfare activities since 2000 to live out the responsibility of corporate citizenship.

With the belief of "Give back to society with what we have taken", UAT has registered a charitable institution, UAT Association, in 2014 to serve the groups of " the Youth", "the Elderly", and "the Physically/ Intellectually Challenged" with the vision to build an energetic and inclusive society promoting care and support, reminding every UAT member of "莫以善少而不為 - don't hesitate from a kind act because it is petty”.

Since 2022, UAT organised the annual “UAT TOP Outstanding Students Award” to recognise the positive attitude and outstanding performance of special needs students. The event is widely recognised once being launched with active participation of Special Schools, the China Hong Kong Paralympic Committee, and the Rotary Club. UAT recognises the positive power of successful large-scale event to the society, and sponsors every year for ACCA Community Day to care for the vulnerable groups.

Moreover, UAT emphasizes the implementation of Green Management. Other than the internal Green Policy, UAT holds “綠色小驚喜 Green Delights” randomly every month to reward staff with cash subsidy for vegetarian lunch to promote healthy diet. “環回視影行動- Reuse of equipment” program donates audio-visual equipment in good conditions to charitable organisations.

The interview was concluded with Tony’s comments, "CSR is intangible and needs to be worked out by actions. By encouraging people around to take part, it makes CSR visualised. In the future, UAT will deepen our commitment in special education areas and realisation of social sustainability. This will not only bring success to UAT, but also positive impact to the society.”
